Job Title: Administrator

Urban Agenda is a not-for-profit, non-partisan, organization that works for a truly sustainable New York City – thriving, green, and just.  We advocate policies and programs grounded in action-oriented research and supported by strong coalitions of union, business, and community partners.  

Urban Agenda is at the forefront of efforts to increase green collar jobs in New York City.  We also convene the NYC Apollo Alliance, part of the national Apollo Alliance’s effort to support clean energy and good jobs.  Urban Agenda consists of a small team of dedicated and talented staff, interns, and volunteers. Very recently, Urban Agenda formed a close working partnership with NY Jobs with Justice.  Our organizations have a shared programmatic focus and are developing joint systems and structures to increase the effectiveness and impact of our work.  The Administrator will support this process through the job responsibilities outlined below.  More information on the work of NY Jobs with Justice is available at www.nyjwj.org.

 

About the Position

The Administrator will be responsible for the day-to-day management of administrative and operational functions of the organization. More specifically, responsibilities will include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Financial Management: including bookkeeping of payables and receivables; maintaining accounting records; working with the external accountant to prepare regular financial reports and bank reconciliations.  The Administrator will act as the main liaison to the external accountant. 
  • Office Management: including liaising with vendors; developing and maintaining efficient file systems and general office procedures;  coordinating logistics for and recording key organizational meetings and events; and maintaining office supplies and petty cash.
  • Human Resources:  including managing payroll and benefits; establishing and tracking employee records; and providing administrative assistance in addressing personnel concerns.
  • Event Management: including being part of a team to plan and implement programmatic and fundraising events and specifically providing logistical, database, and outreach support.

 

Qualifications

The position requires at least two years experience in job areas similar to those outlined above as well as a good working knowledge of Quick Books and Microsoft Office Suite.  In addition, applicants should have the ability to manage multiple tasks in a deadline-driven office, and have excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as proven problem-solving skills. Initiative, resourcefulness, and discipline are much desired traits, as is a positive attitude and ability to be a team player.  Commitment to Urban Agenda’s mission and to the broader social, environmental, and economic justice movement is a must.

 

Terms & Application

The Administrator position is a full-time position with health, pension, vacation, and other benefits.  Compensation will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
