Dear Speaker Quinn,
The Greener, Greater Buildings legislative package is an ambitious proposal that could result in wide energy savings, help fight the negative impacts of climate change, and create thousands of good green jobs.
However, as it is written, the package is incomplete. There are no job standards to ensure that the work created will be done by qualified workers. There are also no protections for affordable housing tenants and a lack of enforcement measures. I urge you to make amendments to the legislation to:
- Include strong job standards;
- Protect affordable housing tenants by preventing the cost of retrofits from being passed through to tenants; and
- Provide reliable enforcement mechanisms.
